Fun and Culture Events in Beijing
The FC Club (Fortune Connection Club)

The FC Club (Fortune Connection Club) is one of China's oldest networking organizations. It serves a rapidly growing community of over 10,000 active members in Shanghai and over 3,000 in Beijing. The FC Club is dedicated to bringing together business professionals, business managers, expatriates, human resource managers, and headhunters for its monthly events. We run a diverse programme of monthly Social Networking Evenings. The programme includes Career Development Headhunter Evenings, Media Evenings, Business & Financial Evenings, I.T Evenings and more all on a regular basis.
The FC Club was founded in 2002 and is recognized as being one of the major hubs of connectivity. FC Club members are typically in their late 20's to early 50's. They are highly educated and motivated individuals. Many of them are the most active mid-career, international professionals in their respective communities. People often also attend the events for purely social reasons to meet old friends and to make new friends. They know that often it is not what you but whom you know that helps in life and at the FC Club you will find the right type of people. Above all FCClub events are a good place to learn new skills, to catch up with old friends or make new friends, to discover new things about your city and the world, and simply to have fun in a sociable and friendly atmosphere.

FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening. Tuesday 24 June
This months Entrepreneurs, Business & Finance Social Networking Evening was on Tuesday 24 June and once again exceeded expectations.
The JW Marriott again kindly consented to host this event in their Loong Bar. However, this month was different. We replaced the traditional Happy Hour (50% of selected drinks) with a new concept, The Power Hour (all house/standard drinks at only 28 RMB). This proved to be very popular with the participants and we will repeat it.
On a personal note, based on the quality of the people present, I think that this must have been one of our best events. I know I had some very interesting conversations.
This event was sponsored by the Eton Montessori Teacher Training Academy. Earn your Montessori Teaching Credential through the American Montessori Society in a Teacher Education Program Accredited by MACTE (Montessori Accreditation Council on Teacher Education).
The Second FC Club Netbonding Day Trip: Saturday June 21 to Shidu
These events are for FC Club members (and friends) that appreciate that true Networking and Netbonding is based on shared interests and experiences. Our second event was even more successful than our first and we had to organise a larger coach than originally anticipated.
This Netbonding event was prepared with the assistance of Ms. Caroline Zheng from West China Tours www.westchina.net.cn
Destination: Shidu. Cost 260RMB, Meeting Point: Outside the Hilton Time: 9:30am Date: Sat, 21 June 2008
Shidu is often referred to as the mini River Li (Guilin and Yangshuo) and is considered to have the most beautiful waterscape in suburban Beijing. We believe that you too will find that the combination of the calm, winding Juma River and the pretty, green mountains that straddle it justify this reputation. This FC Club event has been organised by our partner (and friend) West China Tours. The day included a bamboo raft cruise, a barbecue party banquet awaits us. In addition to delicious kebabs, the barbecue included local fresh roasted trout and vegetables.
After lunch the group decided to visit an amazing stalactite cave whose entrance is only by boat.
Tuesday 10 June
FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening. Tuesday 10 June 2008
This well attended evening was very kindly sponsored by EMMTA (Eton Montessori Teachers Training Association)
They too discovered that these evenings are an amazing platform for to forge new connections and to become visible. They used the evening as a unique platform both to help advertise the advantages of enrolling in their Teacher training Programme and to promote enrollment in their schools.
The event was held at the Zeta Bar, Hilton Beijing and as usual we were delighted to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

Tuesday 27 May: FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.
Tuesday 27 May witnessed the FC Club's May Entrepreneurs, Business & Finance Social Networking Evening. Over one hundred people attended this event many of whom generously contributed to the Sichuan earthquake relief efforts by purchasing a copy of the tragically misnamed book Dujiangyan: In harmony with nature. The books were sold at 200RMB of which 198RMB/book was donated. The books will also be on sale at the coming events.

Saturday 17 May.
The FC Club's Fun Spring Day FC Club Outdoors. Its more than Networking. It's Netbonding!
The 17 May 2008 saw the launch of the FC Clubs Outdoor Networking events.
A coach full of adventurous FC Clubbers braved a weather forecast that predicted light showers and set of to have a Fun Spring Day. The day was a complete success with even the weather bending an ear to our requests for a great day.
It is hard to define what was THE highlight of the day for there were many. For some doubtlessly it was the firecracker sellers, for others the boating, and for others the selection of local delicacies that we had for lunch. My personal favourite was the fact that I/We had a full day to chat and get to know each other even better.
This type of event will be repeated on a regular basis and I am sure that they will become as highly popular as our networking events.
This event was prepared with the assistance of Ms. Coco Zheng from Travel New China.
Our itinerary included a delicious local village meal prepared from fresh farm produce (from the field to the table with no harmful food miles) at a second floor restaurant that provided an interesting view of a non-commercialised section of the Great Wall (climbing was not-included in the programme). We then continued to the Lakeside Great Wall scenic area where we took a leisurely stroll, took countless photographs and then went boating prior to returning to the coach via the (Colin named) Echo Dam.
Tuesday 13 May FC Club Career Development- Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
This event, held at the Hilton's Zeta Bar was attended by 169 people.
The event took place only one day after a massive earthquake struck Sichuan.
The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter Scale.
Despite the fact that the precise extent of the damage was not yet known the FC Club already alert to the magnitude of the tragedy contacted the charity "Operation Blessing" and, under its auspices, organised a donation box to start collecting contributions of earthquake relief work and to start to raise awareness of the scale of the destruction.
The process of healing the physical and psychological damage to the devastated communities of the area will be a long-term project.
China Expert International and The FC Club will be only too happy to provide information on Charity Organisations that are active in that area to anyone who wants to contribute to the relief work.
We will be continuing to assist the relief work at future events.
Once again we wish to thank our team of volunteers for contributing both to the success of the evening from a Social and Networking aspect and in their help in collecting donations.
29 April 2008

The J.W Marriott generously supplied an incredible selection of delicious snacks and with Solid Vodka's help our complimentary drink list was upgraded to include a number of Solid Vodka based cocktails.

8 April 2008

FC Club Career Development- Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
This event was held at the Hilton's Zeta Bar and was attended by 168 people.
Connections were made and on the basis of an informal survey of attendees it was decided to finalise our plans for our first Outdoor Networking event. It is scheduled for Saturday 17 May.
The four bottles of boutique Australian Wines donated by Gelipu Wines made the Lucky Draw even more popular then usual. Hopefully they will donate similar great wines for future events.
Unfortunately our regular volunteer photographer Mr. Patrick Sullivan had to send a last-minute substitute. Hence the pictures are not of the normal quality.
25 March 2008

FC Club Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking Evening.
This was a double first event for us.
The first Business and Finance event and the first time that we used the JW Marriott's Loong bar. Both were proved to be good decisions.
The event was attended by 122 people who all seemed to be very happy with both the new venue and the new theme.
We were privileged to have the hotel's General Manager, Mr. Franco Io, as one of our guests. He During the course of the evening he added two extra prizes for the Lucky Draw. Our top prize was a set of vouchers and L'Oreal products donated by C de France.

Tuesday 19 February 2008
We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening. A new record high attendance was set!! 172 people attended this event. Obviously the 5 Feb event meal did not adversely affect the numbers :). Lets see what will happen in March when, in addition to our signature Career Development-Headhunter Social Networking evening there will also be an Entrepreneur, Business and Finance Social Networking evening.
Top Cellar were kind enough to contribute two bottles of wine as prizes for the Lucky Draw and to offer free 10% Discount cards for their three shops. Rumi also provide two cash vouchers for Rumi Persian Grill and one time 10% discount vouchers.

The Fab Feb Festive Farsi Feast Featured Fantastic Fragrant Food which was enjoyed by the 44 FC Club subscribers that attended. Tuesday 8 January 2008
We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening. A great start to the year!! Despite the fact that many were still on holiday or only just returned from their Christmas vacation 130 people attended the January Social Networking Evening. Rumi Persian Grill was kind enough to double the Lucky Draw prize so that we could distribute 2 sets of 200RMB vouchers for their restaurant. The folks form the Expat Show Beijing (4 6 April 2008) were also there promoting the show and for yes we will be at the show. Look for us in the Associations Village. In addition to our faithful volunteer photographer the City Weekend photographer was also busy recoding the event for their archives.

Tuesday 11 December 2007
We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
A new record! 168 people attended the December Social Networking Evening. The event was once again highly successful with nearly 30 representatives from 12 Executive Search / headhunter companies present. The continuing success and continually growing numbers bodes well for our plans to run two FC Club events/month in 2008. The theme of the new event is still to be finalised as is the start date but it looks like the green light has been given by you, the guests.
Unfortunately though, despite having confirmed his availability, a last moment and unexpected work overload prevented our volunteer photographer from attending. Murphy of course was there in full force since my trusty backup camera is no longer quite so trusty.
Tuesday 13 November 2007
We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening.
Nearly 150 people attended the November Social Networking Evening. The event was once again highly successful with about 20 representatives from 11 Executive Search / headhunter companies present. One interesting occurrence was that for there was nearly complete silence for the Lucky Draw. This is assumed to be a reflection on the quality of this month's prizes which included 3 tickets for the Beijing showing of the Musical 42nd Street.

We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.

FC Club Career Development Headhunter Social Networking Evening at the Beijing Hilton's Zeta Bar.
There are always many that wish to claim that they are the reason for a success. In this instance the combination of the change from Thursdays to Tuesdays, the return to the East side of Beijing and the pleasantly warm evening are arguably the main reason why this month's event were attended by a record 161 people.

13 September 2007

This was the last in a series of 4 great events held at the X-Change Bar. Despite a record high registration for this evening the weather seemed to have been the deciding factor in the actual number of participants. 115 people attended and spent the evening enjoying both the atmosphere and the opportunity for career enhancement. We were especially lucky that, in addition to our traditional prizes (from the Intercontinental Hotel and from Dragonfly Massage Parlour) we had prizes donated by Luxe's Beijing City Guide and by Radio 774AM (Beijing's local bi-lingual Radio Station). The Radio 774 prizes were presented by Jane (Jellico) Chen the host of the "Tail of Two Cities programme".

9 August 2007
We are proud to have City Weekend as our Media Sponsor.
This was another great event. There were 121 participants of whom about 55% were Chinese nationals and about 45% were foreign nationals. The feed back from both the Headhunters/Exec Search companies and the "seekers" has been that once again a lot of useful connections were made.

4 - 8 December 2006 - East Meets West (end)
As part of the Services and Solutions that we provide for the Expat community in China, we introduced to Beijing Top-Class (as opposed to top-less) Cabaret. We brought to Beijing 5 Stars of London's West End Musical Theatre especially for these evenings. The show was called "East Meets West (end)" - that's London's West End. We presented the best songs from some of the most famous musicals. Peter McCarthy's musical arrangements and the magical voices of Mathew Gould, Clive Carter, Jan Hartley and Helen Goldwyn delighted the audiences. The show was attended by many of our media friends including CCTV6, Radio 774AM, Time Out, City Weekend and Xinhua News Agency. This was a first for Beijing and will be continued in 2007.
